The embedded intelligent braking systems (A.B.S.) in nowadays cars require special tests in order to find out the braking characteristics in every specific case.

These images show this kind of study carried out by our team, where the driver and the system reaction times has been controlled. These times are of great importance in the impact previous stage.

Likewise, the lighting system in vehicles has been considerably improved during recent years. Therefore, it is also necessary, in order to verify the exact visibility and lighting conditions that took place during the accident, to carry out the appropriate tests to achieve the parameters of interest in order to clarify the facts.

Among the more specific aspects to evaluate, we find different investigation tasks. In the sample images the visibility conditions of a big size truck are studied. In less common accidents, like in the case where a truck runs over a pedestrian in a zebra crossing, it is necessary to check with a great accurateness the driver visibility conditions.

The deformation analysis is really important to quantify the energy dissipated in vehicles collapse and to determine the direction of the impulse line, of the delta-v and of the occupants inside the vehicle during the crash.

This analysis could be done by digital pictures rectification, by direct measurements on the vehicles and analytical calculation (Campbell algorithm), or by comparison of the damages (in the pictures) with crash tests damages (EES – EBS estimation).

On the accidents scene and on the vehicles in some cases it is useful to collect some biological evidences to define for example the movement of human bodies in motorcycle/bicycle/pedestrian collisions or to determine who was the driver in multiple occupant ejection from a vehicle.

In motorcycle accidents with helmet damages and/or head injuries, it is important to know if the helmet was wear before the impact, when was ejected, if the size was correct, if the retention system had a failure, if there are internal liner compression, etc.
